Can you place roads in sims 3
You will also notice that this road along here is completely straight, at least where the lots are. This is because it was placed while the Grid was on. These lots are perhaps some of the most challenging to build on in Sunset Valley, and let me tell you, experienced builders love challenges. You should consider doing some cliff lots in your world, if not for builders, then at least for completeness' sake.
This is another view of the sloped roads that lead toward the beach from the screenshot in the previous section. Although a bit steep for my taste, you can see that it all flows rather well and that it helps to combine areas 1 and 2 as marked in the screenshot.
There are only 4 lots up in this area. All of them are 60x All 3 residential lots surround a road, which surrounds a park. This is another way to illustrate the elite-ness of the area without painting a huge sign on the grass reading "go away poor people" In other words, its a lot more subtle. This is really an interesting design choice by EA. It helps to divide the rest of the lots in the world from this 'pristigous' area.
The perfectly manacured trees located all along either side of the roads leading up towards the houses also helps to illustrate that this area is only for the rich sims. Jump to: navigation , search. Some sort of "moveobjects on" cheat? I'm reluctant to download CAW to try and solve this due to the time it will take to learn it and the potential for going horribly wrong. Thanks in advance for any solutions you can offer.
BellaClo Immortal Posts: Has entered city planning mode. Hello SimPenguin, For your first problem: To help you when placing a lot, you can try to hold the Alt key. It works like in Buy Mode when you place objects, you can rotate freely the object, or the lot in this case. Yet, it's not a Snap To Grid method. In fact, I think that without the Alt key, there is a kind of snap to grid by default. The problem is that the roads, sidewalks and lots in a world are sometimes placed at a different angle.
Then, you must always have a buffer zone between 2 lots. This zone is 1 tile wide. There is absolutely no way to place 2 lots closer to one another, neither in game, nor in CAW. It's not possible to have real looking very dense city environment in Sims world. Besides this, denser worlds have a heavy impact on performance. You might want to check that your computer is able to handle such a world.
Second problem: The path the Sims follow when they travel from 1 point to another is handled by something called the routing. Basically, in CAW, it looks like a network made of triangles and matching the ground. When you edit the lots in game, this routing map needs to be regenerated to take your modifications into account. To do this, you must reload your save.
You should then be able to place a new lot. Hope it will help you solve your problems. Thanks so much for all the info!
Bummer about the adjacent and road issues. It would be nice to not have to ignore that tiny strip, but I'm overly-fussy about such matters. I haven't really spent any time in Bridgeport, but my memory is that there weren't sections between the buildings down in the core of the city.
I don't have a huge city planned, I just wanted a couple of blocks downtown to be continuous and not look suburban. I can live without it. I will try your instructions to replace lots I've deleted - Hopefully that will work! Thanks again. I feel like I finally have a real chance at making the awesome world I've been searching for but couldn't find already made. Another late reply, sadly. Hi Claudia! I really appreciate it.
Is there a way to fix this? Hi, I don't quite understand your question. Are you saying that when you make a curve road, it disconnects from the intersection piece? More info and a picture will be helpful for my understanding, if you can send one.
Hey I'm loving your tutorials, they have made using CAW a lot easier : I was just wondering though do you have to place sidewalks along the sides of roads? I know that when you place a road peice there is a sidewalk section, is this all you need? MIght be a stupid question and the answer will probably be simple but I thought I'd ask. HI, Sorry your comment got spammed, but I fished it out. So, NO you don't need to add a sidewalk with a road piece, the one it comes with is all you need. PS: there are no stupid questions in this forum.
Hello Michael. Exactly what do you mean unable to use the roads? Car do not appear, or Sims do not walk on them? Can you be more specific.
Or send a snapshot? No, it's ok. That usually helps. Hey, I wonder if you still drop by here. Awesome guide, but it seems I got smth wrong. Can't get rid of the corners on the crossroads. Any tips? I am completely off the grid this year and I sincerely apologise. You have probably long since answered this question by now, but for the sake of any others that may have the same query.
NO you haven't done anything wrong, it's based on the corner map files and how the program interprets it. Hey, I really love your blog. It's super helpful as I've just started the creating process. A couple questions however. How do you delete roads? Does Camera Routing and Sim Routing overlap, or does one replace the other?
It's possible that I will have more questions, as I'm planning on trying to tackle the main town. I've worked on little individual lots and places, but planning the main town area so far has been very daunting.
Thanks for your easy to understand instructions, cohesive blog, and detailed steps. It's very appreciated. Take care. To delete roads, use the Select tool, arrow head that looks like a mouse pointer.
Use it to click the road piece and hit delete on your keyboard. Yes the two overlap, they do not wipe out each other. Now zoom in close so that the grid is visible like in Fig A. That is useful for placing sidewalks. Click and drag from Point A to Point B. You MUST hit escape to stop the road tool. That is how you place a simple straight road. Place a Straight Road like above, going from point A to point B. Click once and hit the ESC key.
So, the more joints you have, the more control you have over your curves. Click the Road between Point B and C. Blue line will appear with squares on the ends. These little squares are like handles. Click one end and drag left or right.
