Part-documentary and part-self-help testimonial, the film navigates the uneasy relationships DeLarzelere has with both the city of Tulsa and himself, as his Biker Fox character's intentions of spirited goodwill sometimes neglect certain boundaries.

In sweltering heat, Fox himself was on hand for the de rigueur photo opps, before the movie, shown at AMC Opening with a short scene of Biker cooking hamburgers, hot dogs, and french fries, then proceeding to throw them all away, with the admonishment not to partake, this reviewer braced mightily for the most embarrassing, absolute worse of what Tulsa filmmaking has to offer, sure to be a major setback with another in a long-line of half-baked third-coast efforts.

Yes, there are random, senseless scenes. At least on first brush. There's the occasional profanity. But, apart from the ridiculous spandex, booty shakes, and Dumb and Dumber-esqe vibe, it was difficult not to laugh, belly-busting out loud, amidst serious underlying ruminations on love, life, and its first cousin, death. As the documentary draws viewers into Biker's "weird" world, what became apparent was the need for an antagonist, good vs. What antagonist would be the perfect foil to a protagonist who: 1 feeds raccoons; 2 front-flips from bicycles; and, 3 prays like a contrite, lonely little boy seeking protection?

Basically, a very expensive home movie. The film is cantankerous and eccentric, and DeLarzelere sometimes resembles an angry raccoon when his temper flares. He also lacks boundaries. All of this is also why people love him and love to hate him. I do a front flip on a bicycle. His deadpan sincerity is hysterical. Regardless, the zoning officer is nonplussed. There are arrests, court dates, more primal screams. DeLarzelere is in a suit at the Tulsa County Courthouse as he talks about all the times he has been hit by cars while riding.

Such is the drama of the life of Biker Fox. They go on for what feels like miles, but the banter perfectly encapsulates the dichotomy of Biker Fox: love and hate exist, often on the same plane. Tags: Film , Video. More Film ». Three hundred of that was just him feeding raccoons.

I would say he shot 80 percent of the movie. RF : Many of those clips, with Biker Fox against a green screen in his home also appear in the documentary. How did you start thinking about converting these hundreds of hours of tapes into a documentary that had a story or anything resembling a narrative throughline, instead of some YouTube clips that would get a laugh and that you might be able to screen at a short film festival?

It took a while to figure out what the story was going to be, because most of the video was of him screaming, or hours of him feeding raccoons at night, or him working in his shop, working on a grille or a bumper. Biker Fox fights back and I like that about him. RF : You handed over a lot of control to Biker Fox with him shooting the majority of the movie himself.

What did you think of his footage, as someone who has studied film and photography. He was just setting up the camera, and if it looked alright, he was OK with it. It was a return to an amateur approach to cinematography. That added to the character of the movie. My dad breeds and flies racing pigeons in Tulsa. But [the documentary] is much more immediate.

JL : I had to get in to Rooftop. This was the one on my list. Rooftop Films really gets it.
